Hello

My client has SQL Server 2008, SSAS, OLAP cubes, with many dimensions.
One of the dimension is department.
For this dimension client created a roles which manage permissions for specific user (domain user) do specific department.

A know that I can create my own #8220;user filter#8221;, but I would like ReportPortal to manage permissions based on these roles.
Is It possible?

From: http://www.reportportal.com/help/design/security.htm

To enable SSAS Windows Security please follow steps below:

1. Go to Admin > Settings > Olap Report. Check the "XML for Analysis Security Enabled" option and click Update.
2. Using IIS console change XMLA Virtual directory to use basic authentication only.
3. To set security for a user go to Admin > Users. Enter Windows user id and password and click Update. You can use the same Windows user id and password for multiple users.
4. To set security for a group of users go to Admin > Roles. Enter Windows user id and password and click Update.

When I sat XMLA directory to use basic authentication only, when I try to open OLAP Report I got a domain login window.

So it didn#8217;t work. It#8217;s actually step backward because client wants to use domain users (without any additional logging in)

so you use 2 different servers. On which server do you have xmla installed ? On Windows 2003 Integrated is mostly working. is the olap server right configured that from another server it is allowed to connect and to query cubes ?

xmla is installed on Windows 2003

OLAP server is right configured.
All users are domain users.
If they got right permissions, they can query cubes.
It's all working fine.
The only problem is with these permissions.

For example:
There is a CUBE Sales
One of the dimensions is DEPARTMENT with two values: DEPARTMENT_A and DEPARTMENT_B
User_1 is head of DEPARTMENT_A
User_2 is CEO

User_1 has permission only to his DEPARTMENT_A
Then He connect to CUBE with MS Excel, He can ONLY see his values of DEPARTMENT_A

User_2 can see ALL data

When User_1 create OLAP Report in ReportPortal He can see ALL data, and this is big problem

So. The question is can we somehow restrict his permissions without using UserFilter?

SO you have added security in the Cube / SSAS Server and so you have it working in Excel. Great ! But difficult to manage.

---

In ReportPortal you have users and can add a simple user filter by user or role for example departments so all users or users parts of the role have security with use of security on the OLAP server.

In ReportPortal you can have also security but you have to use the XMLA security with security in OLAP Server:

read security and admininstration > Settings on:
