I've got a suggestion for a new visualization that I think many would find quite valuable. It's generally described as a "baseline analysis". See a good example here:

http://www.nytimes.com/packages/html/business/20060402_SECTOR_GRAPHIC/index.html

To create such a report the end-user must specify:
1) A recent time period (say, the past week)
2) A longer time period (say, last 180 days)
3) A dimension with members to be analyzed (say Product or Stocks, etc)
4) The measure to be averaged for each time period (e.g. total sales, sales price, etc.)
5) A measure to represent the relative size of each individual member [default could be the average of the measure in 4) for the time period in 1)]
6) (Optional) A dimension that defines the X and Y axis intercepts based on this dimension's average of the measure in 4) for both time periods

The report calculates averages for each member of the dimension as well as for all members combined for both time periods and then divides the individual averages by the overall averages to calculate a performance metric expressed as a percentage.

Each datapoint is then plotted as a bubble in a quadrant chart. The quadrants are defined by a vertical line that intercepts the X axis at either 0% (a simple approach) or by the percent change of the dimension given in 6) across time period given in 1). The horizontal intercept is either at 0% or the percent change of the dimension given in 6) across time period given in 2).

The interpretation of the quadrants is given in the graphic found at the URL below:

I think this would be a great complement to the Tree Map report you already have, and could leverage a lot of the same set-up logic/UI that you've already invested in.
